Kentwood uses shootout to win first Washington state soccer title

Kentwood (Covington) beat the team that beat the team.

The Conquerors (18-3-1) won the school's first girls soccer title by beating the Tahoma Bears (20-2) in a shootout, 2-1, in the Class 4A state title game. Tahoma advanced to the finals by beating two-time defending state champ Skyline, which was ranked No. 1 in the nation. Skyline (19-1) finished third.

SEATTLE PREP COACH FORCED TO SHAVE
Seattle Prep coach Andy Hendricks has had an offer on the table to shave his mustache for 21 years. The Panthers (15-1-7) finally took him up on it by winning the Class 3A state title. Prep, which finished second four times, beat Bonney Lake 1-0. For more state soccer champions, click here.

* Amber Woolcock, Tahoma (Kent) soccer: The senior goalie notched a shutout as her team beat national No. 1 Skyline in the state semifinals 1-0.

* Mary Ann Santucci, Seattle Prep soccer: Santucci scored the game's only goal as Prep won the Class 3A state title.

RECRUITING NEWS
