Basketball Recap: Santa Rosa Comes Up Short

Santa Rosa was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They fell 39-32 to the Estancia Bears. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Bears this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 53-37 back in February.

Estancia's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Lucia Chavez, who went 5-for-11 en route to 11 points in addition to seven rebounds and five steals. Chavez has become a key player for Estancia: the team is 6-1 when she posts at least five steals, but 8-11 otherwise. Jhenna Valencia was another key player, putting up nine points and five boards.

Santa Rosa's loss dropped their record down to 9-16. As for Estancia, their win bumped their record up to 14-12.

Coincidentally, Santa Rosa and Estancia will both be playing Raton the next time they take the court. Santa Rosa will head out to face Raton at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, while Estancia will host them at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
