Basketball Recap: Timberland's Victory on Wednesday Extends Winning Streak to Six

Timberland waltzed into their matchup on Wednesday with five straight wins... but they left with six. They came within a single point of losing the streak, but they secured a 50-49 W against the Burke Bulldogs. This was a revenge game for the Wolves: when they faced off against the Bulldogs two weeks ago, they had to take a 46-41 defeat.

Timberland's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but China Greene led the charge by going 6-for-14 on her way to 17 points and four steals. That's the most points Greene has posted since back in December of 2023. Kennahdi Murrell was another key player, going 5-for-7 to rack up 14 points and seven rebounds.

Timberland smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in 15 consecutive games.

Despite the loss, Burke still got an impressive performance from Nathaya Phoenix, who dropped a double-double with 17 points and 13 boards. Phoenix is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last eight games she's played. Another player making a difference was Kendall Smith, who went 5-for-7 en route to 14 points.

Timberland pushed their record up to 15-9 with the win, which was their sixth straight on the road. As for Burke, their loss was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 9-1 and their overall record down to 20-6.

Timberland will have a chance to go back-to-back against Burke: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
