Basketball Recap: Hannah Higgs' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Evansville Christian over Heritage Hills

After a string of three wins, Evansville Christian's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They fell 45-36 to the Heritage Hills Patriots. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Eagles of the 46-38 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in January of 2024.

Several Eagles players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Hannah Higgs, who posted 15 points and seven steals. Higgs is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed six or more in the last four games she's played. Another player making a difference was Bella Hall, who put up nine points and seven boards.

Even though they lost, Evansville Christian smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in four consecutive games.

Heritage Hills' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Mayci Litherland led the charge by putting up 14 points and five rebounds. Mia Becher was another key player, scoring ten points and five boards.

Evansville Christian's loss dropped their record down to 14-7. As for Heritage Hills, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 11-9.

Evansville Christian does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Heritage Hills, they will be playing at home against Princeton at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Princeton will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something Heritage Hills surely won't give up without a fight.
