League recap: Prairie View extends winning streak with victory over Westminster

5A East Metro recap October 8, 2013

Prairie View added to the longest winning streak in 5A East Metro this week by beating Westminster, 41-22. The victory was the fourth in a row for the team.

Thornton lost to Brighton 50-7 last week, the largest margin of any game. Ryan Akoto caught 2 passes for 67 yards in the defeat.

Tanner Pepin provided a threat through the air and on the ground as the Bulldogs beat Thornton. He completed 5 passes for 115 yards and also ran for 179 yards. Pepin's key target this week was Nate Morales, who caught 3 passes for 74 yards.

Art Toledo threw for 135 yards and 4 touchdowns. He went 11-18 with 1 interception.

Morales was the best receiver in the league this week as Brighton topped Mike Marquez's team. Morales tallied 3 receptions for 74 yards. Shane Golderman helped Brighton's passing attack out by catching 1 ball for 28 yards.

Pat Sandoval's team's Pepin and Tristin Wells led the league in both passing and receiving yards. Pepin has thrown for 960 yards this season, while Wells has 24 catches for 345 yards. Cole Barone from Prairie View leads the league in rushing with 846 yards.

An important game coming up in 5A East Metro this week will be when Todd Riccio's team takes on the Bulldogs. The Thunderhawks are currently in second, while Brighton is in fifth.

Northglenn made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 9,917 from 11,061. The improvement was the result of a 35-6 victory over Lincoln last week.
