Softball Preview: Coldwater Cavaliers vs. Tri-Village Patriots

Coldwater has enjoyed a five-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will face off against the Tri-Village Patriots at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.

Coldwater will head into Saturday's match hoping to keep the good times rolling: they proved they can win big on Saturday (they won by eight) but on Saturday they proved they can win the close ones too. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 10-8 win over Fort Recovery.

Madison Wendel made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off four hits (and not a single walk). Wendel has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in 20 consecutive pitching appearances. Wendel was even better at the plate, firing off three home runs and five RBI while going 3-for-4.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Claire Steinke, who fired off two home runs, three runs, and a double while going 4-for-4. Another player making a difference was Rachel Schroyer, who scored two runs while going 1-for-3.

Meanwhile, Tri-Village came tearing into Friday's contest with 14 straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7.1 runs) and they left with even more momentum. They skirted past the Tigers 9-7.

Coldwater's victory bumped their record up to 13-10. As for Tri-Village, their win was their tenth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 16-1.
