Baseball Recap: Dixie Wins Going Away Against Coronado

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against American Fork, Dixie was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They blew past the Coronado Cougars 8-1. The result was nothing new for the Flyers, who have now won five games by seven runs or more so far this season.

Ethan McArthur spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on two hits and racked up six Ks. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-low in earned runs (zero).

On the hitting side, Dixie let Colton Hill and Max Larkin run wild. Hill scored two runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances, while Larkin scored a run while going 2-for-3. Hill has become a key player for Dixie: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 3-4 otherwise. Weston Gilmore was another key player, scoring two runs.

Dixie's victory bumped their record up to 7-4. As for Coronado, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-9 record this season.

Dixie didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 10-1 defeat against Pleasant Grove on the 21st. As for Coronado, they will take on Taylorsville in a tournament on Saturday. Coronado is facing Taylorsville at the right time seeing as Taylorsville is stuck on a five-game losing streak.
