Volleyball Recap: Veterans Memorial Takes a Loss

Veterans Memorial lost against Smithson Valley back in October of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Patriots fell just short of the Rangers by a score of 3-2. The Patriots have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Veterans Memorial started the match hot and won the first two sets, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 27-29, 20-25, 25-14, 25-18, 15-10.

When it comes to explaining why Veterans Memorial lost, don't look at Cameron Danaher. Despite the final result, she had 22 digs and three assists. Danaher is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had 19 or more in each of the last three games she's played.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Smithson Valley to victory, but perhaps none more so than Berkley Bates, who had 23 digs and five aces. Those five aces gave Bates a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Dani Mendez, who had 26 assists and seven digs.

Veterans Memorial's loss dropped their record down to 3-5. As for Smithson Valley, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 6-3.

Veterans Memorial wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 2-0 win against Harper on the 21st. As for Smithson Valley, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 2-0 victory against Ellison on the 21st.
