The D.C. Everest Evergreens will take on the Superior Spartans at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Both teams are coming into the match red-hot, with D.C. Everest sitting on 18 straight wins and Superior on seven.
D.C. Everest is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Wisconsin's top teams: Stevens Point, who was ranked 11th at the time (D.C. Everest was ranked third). The Evergreens' pitcher stepped up to hand the Panthers a 1-0 shutout on Wednesday. Give the Evergreens' pitching crew some credit: that's the team's third straight shutout.
Not much got past Addison Kluck, who gave up just three hits and racked up 13 Ks to keep Stevens Point off the board. Kluck has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in 13 consecutive appearances.
Meanwhile, Superior made easy work of Denfeld on Tuesday and carried off a 15-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Spartans, who have now won five games by six runs or more so far this season.
Superior let Paige 'Peeps' Johnson and Paige B. Johnson run wild. Paige 'Peeps' went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI, while Paige B. went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one double. Those three hits gave Paige B. a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Halle Visger, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
Superior always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .607. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Denfeld only posted an OBP of .312.
D.C. Everest's win was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 18-0. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.4 runs over those games. As for Superior, their record now sits at 11-4.
Friday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. D.C. Everest hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .328. However, it's not like Superior struggles in that department as they've averaged .381. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
