Baseball Game Preview: Dr. Joaquin Garcia Bulldogs vs. Suncoast Chargers

For the first time this season, Dr. Joaquin Garcia will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup on Wednesday. They will head out on the road to square off against the Suncoast Chargers at 6:30 p.m. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Dr. Joaquin Garcia is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They walked away with a 14-11 win over Wellington on Tuesday.

Dr. Joaquin Garcia got a great performance from Brett Terry as he tossed five innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. Terry is becoming a predictor of Dr. Joaquin Garcia's success: when he allows at most one earned run the team is 2-1 (and 6-7 when he doesn't).

On the hitting side, Eric Flores was a standout: he went 2-for-4 with one home run and five RBI. Those five RBI gave him a new career-high. Chase Webster was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4.

Dr. Joaquin Garcia was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .412. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, it may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but Suncoast ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-1 victory over Benjamin.

Hayden Neihoff tossed a big game, striking out six batters over 6.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits.

At the plate, Suncoast saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brady Benevides, who went 1-for-3 with one double.

Suncoast is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. The win got Dr. Joaquin Garcia back to even at 8-8.
