Softball Recap: Ritchie County Drops Highest Score of Season Against Braxton County

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Ritchie County). They put the hurt on the Braxton County Eagles with a sharp 26-0 victory on Wednesday. The Rebels might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 12 matches by six runs or more this season.

Rocklyn Marcum made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with four stolen bases, four runs, and one double. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, Chelsie Jeffrey and Kila Frymier did most of the damage at the plate: Jeffrey went a perfect 2-for-2 with two triples, three runs, and four RBI, while Frymier went a perfect 4-for-4 with seven RBI, two runs, and one double. Those seven RBI gave Frymier a new career-high. Lillian Monn was another key player, going 3-for-4 with four runs, two RBI, and one double.

Ritchie County kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in three consecutive contests.

Ritchie County has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-4-1 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.2 runs over those games. As for Braxton County, they are on a 23-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-20.

Ritchie County does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Braxton County, they will take on Doddridge County at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Eagles' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bulldogs have averaged an impressive 9.2 runs per game this season.
