Softball Recap: South Milwaukee Beats New Berlin West for Their Seventh Straight Victory

South Milwaukee put another one in the bag on Thursday to keep their perfect season alive. They put the hurt on the New Berlin West Vikings with a sharp 14-4 victory. The result was nothing new for the Rockets, who have now won five matchups by ten runs or more so far this season.

Lindsey Stapleton made a splash while hitting and pitching. She tossed six innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. Stapleton was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with four RBI and two doubles. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Amber Helgren, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season. Audrey Caruso was another key player, going 4-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

South Milwaukee kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 18 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in six consecutive contests.

South Milwaukee pushed their record up to 7-0 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 16.0 runs over those games. As for New Berlin West, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-8.

South Milwaukee has already played their next game, a 16-1 win against Brown Deer on the 25th. As for New Berlin West, they will face off against Wisconsin Lutheran at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Wisconsin Lutheran will roll in looking for their tenth straight victory, something New Berlin West surely won't give up without a fight.
