Baseball Recap: Downingtown West Comes Up Short

Downingtown West fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Great Valley on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Patriots by a score of 3-2. The Whippets just can't catch a break and have now endured three losses in a row.

Austen Frye was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out eight over six innings pitched.

On the hitting side, Downingtown West saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brett Connolly, who scored a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Downingtown West's defeat dropped their record down to 2-9. As for Great Valley, the victory (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 10-1.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Downingtown West will welcome Central Bucks South at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The last four games the Titans have played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one. As for Great Valley, they will be playing at home against Bishop Shanahan at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday. The Patriots are on a five-game streak of home wins, the Eagles a three-game streak of away wins, meaning someone's leaving a streak behind.
