Genoa Area is 2-8 against Eastwood since April of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Saturday. The Comets will venture away from home to square off against the Eagles at 12:00 p.m. Genoa Area is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.5 runs per game this season.
Having struggled with eight losses in a row, Genoa Area turned things around against Rossford on Wednesday. They were the clear victors by a 16-4 margin over the Bulldogs. The Comets not only won on Wednesday, but they posted their biggest win since March 27th (when they won 13-1).
Makayla Magrum spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on eight hits.
On the hitting side, Genoa Area got a massive performance out of Emersen Bickel, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Maddie Bronowski was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three runs, two doubles, and two RBI.
Genoa Area always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .564. The last time their OBP was this high was back in March.
Meanwhile, Eastwood entered their tilt with Lake on Friday with six consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with seven. They came out on top against the Flyers by a score of 6-2.
MacKenzie Hady made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out 15 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
In other batting news, Jenna Lubash was excellent, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs and one double. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Addison Bowe, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one double.
Eastwood pushed their record up to 15-1 with the win, which was their sixth straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Genoa Area, their record is now 4-10.
Genoa Area might still be hurting after the 26-0 defeat they got from Eastwood when the teams last played last Tuesday. Can the Comets avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
