Basketball Recap: Dominic Vanden Berghe's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Capuchino over South San Francisco

Capuchino was the 57-32 winner over South San Francisco when they last played one another back in December of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. The Capuchino Mustangs took a 54-50 hit to the loss column at the hands of the South San Francisco Warriors.

Capuchino lost on Wednesday despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Dominic Vanden Berghe, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 14 boards. Vanden Berghe has been hot, having also posted two or more blocks the last six times he's played. Matthew Alas was another key player, going 6 for 14 on his way to 15 points and five rebounds.

Even though they lost, Capuchino smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in six consecutive games.

Capuchino's defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 5-6. As for South San Francisco, their win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-2.

Capuchino will be playing in front of their home fans against Sequoia at 7:45 p.m. on Friday. Sequoia knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past five matches -- so hopefully Capuchino likes a good challenge. As for South San Francisco, they will venture away from home to challenge Terra Nova at 7:45 p.m. on Friday.
