Softball Recap: Nickerson Takes a Loss

Nickerson extended their losing streak to 15 on Friday, dropping their season record down to 2-16 in the process. They lost 15-3 to the Hillsboro Trojans. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Trojans this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 11-6 on Friday.

Nickerson saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Shalie Powell, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. That stolen base marked the first that Powell has snagged this season.

As for Hillsboro, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-14. They not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since March 25th (when they won 19-5).

On Hillsboro's side, the team relied heavily on Rylee Voran, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with five RBI, three runs, and one double. Those five RBI gave Voran a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Cassidy Bernhardt, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Nickerson will square off against Smoky Valley at 3:00 p.m. on Monday. The Vikings have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 12.06 runs per game on average), something the Panthers will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Hillsboro, they will take on Council Grove at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Trojans' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Braves have averaged an impressive 7.5 runs per game this season.
