Softball Recap: Cape Henlopen Picks Up Third Consecutive Victory

Cape Henlopen put another one in the bag on Saturday to keep their perfect season alive. They put the hurt on the William Penn Colonials with a sharp 23-1 win. Fans of the Vikings have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 6+ runs.

Tegan Baker and Abby Marsh made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Baker tossed three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Meanwhile, Marsh struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season. At bat, Baker went a perfect 1-for-1 with four runs and one triple, while Marsh went 2-for-3 with one triple and two RBI. That's the most hits Marsh has posted since back in May of 2024.

In other batting news, Alivia Heers and Ava Calciano did most of the damage at the plate: Heers got on base in all six of her plate appearances with five RBI, two doubles, and one triple, while Calciano scored four runs and stole a base while getting on base in five of her six plate appearances. Those two doubles gave Heers a new career-high. Jordynn Bowe was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-2.

Cape Henlopen kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits every time they've taken the field this season.

Cape Henlopen's record now sits at 3-0. As for William Penn, they are on a four-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-3.

Cape Henlopen wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next match, an 11-0 victory against Caesar Rodney on the 2nd. William Penn has also already played their next contest (against Sussex Central), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
