Preview: West Shore Christian Academy vs. New Covenant Christian Flames
West Shore Christian Academy has enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they'll head out on the road. West Shore Christian Academy and the New Covenant Christian Flames will face off at 7:30 p.m. on January 19th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Pennsylvania (West Shore Christian Academy is ranked 502nd, while New Covenant Christian is ranked 515th).
Even though West Shore Christian Academy has not done well against Mount Calvary Christian recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. West Shore Christian Academy narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Mount Calvary Christian 43-41. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory West Shore Christian Academy has posted yet this season.
Meanwhile, New Covenant Christian waltzed into their match last Tuesday with two straight wins but they left with three. They walked away with a 53-41 win over Covenant Christian Academy.
It was another big night for Tycen VanDerPloog, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 11 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Sam Balsbaugh, who scored 13 points along with two steals.
West Shore Christian Academy now has a winning record of 5-4. As for New Covenant Christian, their win bumped their record up to 6-4.
West Shore Christian Academy didn't have too much breathing room in their match against New Covenant Christian when the teams last played back in December of 2023, but they still walked away with a 41-35 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for West Shore Christian Academy since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
