Softball Recap: Ryle Beats Newport Central Catholic for Their Third Straight Win

Ryle waltzed into their match on Sunday with two straight wins... but they left with three. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Newport Central Catholic Thoroughbreds a 10-0 shutout. Considering the Raiders have won 11 contests by more than six runs this season, Sunday's blowout was nothing new.

Leah Broussard and Kiley Patterson did most of the damage at the plate: Broussard went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI, while Patterson went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. That's the most hits Patterson has posted since back in April. Emily Gehring was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double.

Ryle hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their strikeout total in three consecutive games.

Ryle pushed their record up to 18-7-1 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.7 runs over those games. As for Newport Central Catholic, they moved to 8-5 with that loss, which also ended their five-game winning streak.

As of now, neither Ryle nor the Thoroughbreds have any future games scheduled.
