Video: Miracle game-winning hook-and-lateralMater Dei (New Monmouth, N.J.) wins first state crown on last play of the game.We might as well call this play the Mater Dei Miracle. And we can also call the Seraphs state champions following a heart-stopping 26-20 win over Holy Spirit on Saturday.
Mater Dei (New Monmouth, N.J.) was tied 20-20 and at midfield with only three seconds left in the Non-Public Group 2 state championship.
The Seraphs were ready.
Kyle Devaney hauled in a pass and lateralled the ball to three-star receiver
Eddie Lewis - and he was gone. The senior raced to the end zone untouched for the game-winning 50-yard touchdown.
Mater Dei escaped with the victory and nabbed its first state title in school history.
