Football Preview: Southwest Roughriders vs. Arthur County Wolves

The Southwest Roughriders will challenge the Arthur County Wolves at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams are strolling into their matchups after big wins in their previous games.

Last Friday, Southwest humbled Harvard with a 56-14 victory. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Roughriders.

Houston Billeter had an outrageously good game as he threw for 224 yards and five touchdowns on only 11 passes, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. Damario Koetter helped Billeter out on the ground, rushing for 53 yards and a touchdown.

On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Southwest's defense and their seven sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Jacob Barber and Trenton Williams who racked up all seven sacks between them. The dominant performance gave him a new career- in total yards.

Meanwhile, Arthur County was fully in charge on Thursday, breezing past Medicine Valley 64-25 on the road.

Arthur County got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Grady Gorwill out in front who rushed for 188 yards and three touchdowns on only 15 carries. With that strong performance, Gorwill is now averaging an impressive 133 rushing yards per game. Talan Storer was another key player, throwing for 108 yards and four touchdowns.

Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Arthur County was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 238 rushing yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Medicine Valley only rushed for 41.

Arthur County's defense was in the mix too, especially the secondary: they snagged two passes before it was all said and done. The picks came courtesy of Reese Swanson and Gorwill.

Southwest's win bumped their record up to 2-0. As for Arthur County, they pushed their record up to 2-0 with that victory, which was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Southwest was dealt a bruising 71-36 defeat at the hands of Arthur County when the teams last played back in September of 2023. Can Southwest avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
