Softball Game Preview: St. Louis Catholic Saints vs. Lake Charles College Prep Trailblazers

The St. Louis Catholic Saints will head out to face off against the Lake Charles College Prep Trailblazers at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (St. Louis Catholic has three straight wins, Lake Charles College Prep has nine straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

St. Louis Catholic had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 11-run drubbing they dealt Westlake on Tuesday. St. Louis Catholic's pitcher stepped up to hand Westlake an 11-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Saints, who have now won four contests by seven runs or more so far this season.

Aila Brassier was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Ellie Gage, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.

St. Louis Catholic hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most three strikeouts in three consecutive matches.

Meanwhile, Lake Charles College Prep came up short against Jennings on Monday, falling 22-1.

St. Louis Catholic's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-5. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.3 runs over those games. As for Lake Charles College Prep, their loss dropped their record down to 0-8.

St. Louis Catholic suffered a grim 35-24 defeat to Lake Charles College Prep when the teams last played back in March of 2024. Can St. Louis Catholic avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
