Basketball Recap: Cocke County Takes a Loss

On Wednesday, the Cocke County Fighting Cocks were within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 43-39 to the South Gibson Hornets. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Fighting Cocks came into the matchup with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee basketball rankings (they are ranked fifth, while the Hornets are ranked 38th).

Cocke County's loss dropped their record down to 29-8. As for South Gibson, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 28-8 record this season.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: South Gibson beat Cocke County by a score of 43-39 on Thursday.
