Softball Game Preview: Mineola Yellowjackets vs. Edgewood Bulldogs

The Mineola Yellowjackets will face off against the Edgewood Bulldogs at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Mineola was handed a heart-breaking two-run defeat in their last match, but they sure didn't let that happen against Winona on Tuesday. The Yellowjackets were the clear victors by a 20-1 margin over the Wildcats. The victory continues a trend for the Yellowjackets in their matchups with the Wildcats: they've now won nine in a row.

Mycah Morman looked comfortable as she pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Emily Hodges was a standout: she scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Kali Chrietzberg was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.

Mineola kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in 11 consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Edgewood waltzed into their game on Tuesday with five straight wins... but they left with six. They never let Quitman get on the board and left with a 15-0 win. Edgewood's pitching crew has been rock solid lately; the team hasn't given up a run in their last four matchups.

Edgewood pushed their record up to 20-8-1 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Mineola, their victory bumped their record up to 13-10-2.

Everything went Mineola's way against Edgewood when the teams last played back in March, as Mineola made off with a 15-4 win. Do the Yellowjackets have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Bulldogs turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
