Preview: Elysian Fields Yellowjackets vs. New Diana Eagles
Elysian Fields is 7-0 against New Diana since October of 2014, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Elysian Fields Yellowjackets will be playing in front of their home fans against the New Diana Eagles at 7:00 p.m. Both teams come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Friday, Elysian Fields never let their opponents score. Everything went their way against Hughes Springs as Elysian Fields made off with a 26-0 victory. The win was just what Elysian Fields needed coming off of a 40-0 defeat in their prior game.
Dez Harrison was the offensive standout of the matchup as he rushed for 125 yards and two touchdowns on only seven carries. Another player making a difference was Dravian Rather, who rushed for 87 yards and a touchdown on only 12 carries.
New Diana never got on the board in their matchup on October 6th, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Hughes Springs two weeks ago. They blew past the Mustangs, posting a 55-8 win at home.
New Diana's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Davy Mapps, who rushed for 154 yards and two touchdowns on only 12 carries, and DeJuan Johnson, who rushed for 112 yards and three touchdowns on only eight carries.
Elysian Fields' victory bumped their record up to 2-7. As for New Diana, their victory bumped their record up to 5-2.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Friday's contest: Elysian Fields has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 148.3 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like New Diana struggles in that department as they've been even better at 222.9 per game. It's looking like Friday's match might have some serious battles in the trenches.
Elysian Fields didn't have too much breathing room in their match against New Diana when the teams last played back in October of 2022, but they still walked away with a 13-8 victory.
