Basketball Game Preview: Laguna Creek Cardinals vs. Sheldon Huskies

The Laguna Creek Cardinals will square off against the Sheldon Huskies at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Laguna Creek has struggled recently with three losses in a row, while Sheldon will arrive with 13 straight wins.

It was a proper cat-fight when Laguna Creek took on Franklin on Wednesday. Laguna Creek came up short against Franklin, falling 87-64. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game on Saturday (58), the Cardinals still had to take the loss.

Meanwhile, Sheldon won against Elk Grove on Tuesday with 69 points and they decided to stick to that point total again on Wednesday. Sheldon beat Elk Grove by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 69-61. Given the Huskies' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 77th, while the Thundering Herd are ranked 217th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Sheldon's victory was their 15th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 19-9. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 72.8 points over those games. As for Laguna Creek, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-20.

Laguna Creek came up short against Sheldon when the teams last played back in January, falling 64-51. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Sheldon's Teyjaun Carter, who went 5-for-8 to rack up 14 points in addition to six assists and five rebounds.
