Basketball Game Preview: Sandy Creek Patriots vs. Whitewater Wildcats

The Sandy Creek Patriots are taking a road trip to take on the Whitewater Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Sandy Creek is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 61.3 points per game this season.

While Sandy Creek didn't have the best season last year (they finished 10-15), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They were the clear victor by a 71-49 margin over Upson-Lee on Tuesday. The Patriots have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won three matchups by 22 points or more this season.

Sandy Creek relied on the efforts of Morghan Reckley, who almost dropped a triple-double on 27 points, nine assists, and ten steals, and Madison Reckley, who went 11 of 21 on her way to 25 points in addition to six assists and five boards. Morghan's evening made it seven games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Shayla Cox, who posted nine points and six rebounds.

Meanwhile, Whitewater was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat. They came up short against Troup County, falling 56-32. The contest was a close 16-13 at the break, but unfortunately for the Wildcats it sure didn't stay that way.

Sandy Creek is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 5-2 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.4 points per game. As for Whitewater, their loss dropped their record down to 1-7.

Sandy Creek took their win against Whitewater in their previous meeting back in December of 2022 by a conclusive 55-33. The rematch might be a little tougher for Sandy Creek since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
