Basketball Recap: Ty Zinke's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Lodi Academy over Escondido Adventist Academy

If Lodi Academy was feeling good fresh off their 45-24 takedown of Tournament Opponent on Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Lodi Academy Titans fell to the Escondido Adventist Academy Hawks 47-41. The Titans lost against the Hawks in their previous head to head back in December of 2015, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 66-33 score last time.

Lodi Academy's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ty Zinke, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 14 boards. The dominant performance also gave Zinke a new career-high in blocks (three). Cole Berreth was another key player, putting up 13 points and five rebounds.

Even though they lost, Lodi Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in eight consecutive contests.

Lodi Academy has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-9 record this season. As for Escondido Adventist Academy, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-11.

Lodi Academy wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 74-32 defeat against Vanguard College Prep on the 28th. Escondido Adventist Academy has also already played their next contest (against Coastal Academy), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
