Softball Recap: Calhoun Beats Seymour for Their Third Straight Victory

Calhoun had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 11 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Monday. They walked away with a 10-5 win over the Seymour Indians. That's more bragging rights for the Warriors, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Calhoun got a great performance from Riley Pohlman as she struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. Pohlman has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Layla Longnecker, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI and one run. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in May of 2025. Bralyn Lammy was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Calhoun was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. They are 8-2 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Calhoun's victory bumped their record up to 11-9. As for Seymour, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-16.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Calhoun will face off against West Central co-op [Winchester-Bluffs] at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Cougars have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.79 runs per game on average), something the Warriors will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Seymour, they will square off against Illini West at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Chargers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.17 runs per game on average), something the Indians will no doubt try to take advantage of.
