Basketball Recap: Independence Comes Up Short

Independence lost against Memorial back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Independence Knights took a blow against the Memorial Warriors, falling 59-27. While losing is never fun, the Knights can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 713th, while the Warriors are ranked 30th).

Independence has been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-8 record this season. As for Memorial, they pushed their record up to 15-6 with the win, which was their third straight on the road.

Independence will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Liberty at 1:00 p.m. on January 3, 2025. Memorial and Plano West will round out the year against one another at at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Memorial knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past four contests -- so hopefully Plano West likes a good challenge.
