Baseball Recap: Woodstock Academy Gets the Win

North Branford typically has all the answers at home, but on Saturday Woodstock Academy proved too difficult a challenge. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-1 win over the Thunderbirds. For the Centaurs, this counts as revenge for the 9-8 victory the Thunderbirds walked away with the last time they faced one another back in May of 2024.

Brady Ericson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on two hits and racked up 13 Ks. He has become a key player for Woodstock Academy: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least eight strikeouts, but 4-6 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Woodstock Academy's win was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Matthew Hernandez, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one double. That double marked the first that Hernandez has hit this season.

Woodstock Academy has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 7-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.5 runs over those games. As for North Branford, with the loss, they broke their 12-game winning streak and moved their record to 13-2.

Coming up, Woodstock Academy will square off against Waterford at 4:15 p.m. on Monday. As for North Branford, they will challenge East Hampton at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
