Football Recap: Jay Mustangs vs. Cigarroa Toros
Jay won the last time they faced Cigarroa and things went their way on Friday too. The Mustangs simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Toros 35-6. The Mustangs pushed the score to 35-0 by the end of the third, a deficit the Toros cut but never quite recovered from.

Tajari Wellington was nothing short of spectacular: he rushed for 52 yards and a pair of touchdowns, and also threw for 79 yards and one TD. What's more, he racked up 177.1 passer rating, the most he's had since back in October of 2024. Speaking of playmakers, who could forget Brennan Oliver, who went all the way with a kickoff return for a touchdown.
Jay didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Christopher Balderas and Victor Baldwin. Balderas is also on a roll when it comes to total tackles, as he's now made five or more in each of the last eight games he's played dating back to last season. Angel Flores was another major factor on D, forcing one fumble and making eight total tackles (1.0 for loss).
Special teams was a major factor in the game for Jay, racking up 11 points in total. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Oliver, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.
The win made it two in a row for Jay and bumps their season record up to 5-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 19 points in those games. As for Cigarroa, their loss dropped their record down to 0-7.
Coincidentally, Jay and Cigarroa will both be playing Nixon the next time they take the field. The Mustangs will host the Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, while the Toros will head out to face them at 7:00 p.m. on the 24th.
