Basketball Recap: Sandy Valley Takes a Loss

After flying high against Garaway last Saturday, Sandy Valley came back down to earth. The Sandy Valley Cardinals were beaten by the Tuscarawas Valley Trojans 56-11 on Saturday. The game marked the Cardinals' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Elli Wallick was her usual excellent self, almost dropping a double-double on 16 points and nine steals for Tuscarawas Valley. Those 16 points gave Wallick a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Leah Bourquin, who posted nine points and three steals.

Sandy Valley's loss dropped their record down to 5-7. As for Tuscarawas Valley, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 9-1.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Sandy Valley will venture away from home to take on Newcomerstown at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Tuscarawas Valley, they are taking a road trip to face off against Strasburg-Franklin at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both have allowed few points on average, (Tuscarawas Valley: 22.1, Strasburg-Franklin: 29.5) so any points scored will be well earned.
