Softball Game Preview: Liberty Lancers vs. Asotin Panthers

For the second straight game, Liberty will face off against Asotin. The Lancers will be playing at home against the Panthers at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Liberty has four straight wins, Asotin has five straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Liberty is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They put the hurt on Asotin with a sharp 13-3 victory on Tuesday. With that win, the Lancers brought their scoring average up to 7.2 runs per game.

Jordyn Jeske was a major factor no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out ten over four innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing four bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. Those four stolen bases gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Liberty let Haylee Mitzimberg and Aubrey Hofmann run wild. Mitzimberg went 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs, while Hofmann went 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. That's the most RBI Mitzimberg has posted since back in March of 2024. Hanna Perkins was another key player, scoring two runs while going 3-for-4.

Liberty always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .562. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Asotin only posted an OBP of .286.

Asotin's loss dropped their record down to 1-9. As for Liberty, their victory bumped their record up to 4-0.

Asotin's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Liberty has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.8 hits per game. It's a different story for Asotin, though, as they've been averaging 14.1 hits. Given Liberty's sizable advantage in that area, the Panthers will need to find a way to close that gap.
