The Point Loma Pointers will head out on the road to square off against the Academy of Our Lady of Peace Pilots at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Point Loma will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.
Point Loma is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Wednesday. They skirted past Rancho Bernardo 3-2.
The match was a true back-and-forth as no team won consecutive sets, but in the end it was Point Loma who won the one that mattered. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-16, 22-25, 25-17, 21-25, 17-15.

Point Loma's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Olivia Karvelis, who had 18 digs and six assists, and Reece Thomas, who had 12 digs and three aces. Karvelis has been hot for a while, having posted ten or more digs the last 14 times she's played.
They weren't the only good servers: Point Loma was lethal from the service line and finished the match with ten aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least seven aces in five consecutive matchups.
Academy of Our Lady of Peace not only won on Wednesday, but they posted their biggest win since September 18th (when they won 3-0). Everything went their way against Sage Creek as they made off with a 3-0 win. The Pilots haven't had any issues with the Bobcats recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.
Academy of Our Lady of Peace was especially dominant in the second set. The final score came out to 25-16, 25-14, 25-18.
Point Loma better keep an eye on Belen Butler. She was instrumental in Academy of Our Lady of Peace's win, getting 15 digs and nine aces. That's the most digs Butler has posted since back in September.
Point Loma's record is now 18-11. As for Academy of Our Lady of Peace, their record now sits at 16-10.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Friday's match: Point Loma has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 7.5 aces per game. However, it's not like Academy of Our Lady of Peace struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8.7 aces. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Everything went Point Loma's way against Academy of Our Lady of Peace in their previous matchup back in September, as Point Loma made off with a 3-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Pointers since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
