Recap: Pojoaque Valley Elks/Elkettes vs. Shiprock Chieftains
There's no place like home for the Pojoaque Valley Elks/Elkettes, who bounced back after a tough loss on the road on Monday. They walked away with a 27-17 win over Shiprock on Friday.
Pojoaque Valley's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Alison Paytiamo, who scored nine points along with five rebounds. Those five rebounds set a new season-high mark for her. Another player making a difference was Lauren Salazar , who scored seven points.
Pojoaque Valley pushed their record up to 4-3 with that victory, which was their third straight at home. As for Shiprock, they now have a losing record at 3-4.
Pojoaque Valley will head out on the road to face off against Santa Fe Indian at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in New Mexico (Santa Fe Indian is ranked 42nd, while Pojoaque Valley is ranked 54th). Shiprock will be home for the holidays to greet Monte Del Sol Charter at 2:00 p.m. on Friday. Monte Del Sol Charter comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 18 points in their last eight games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse.
