Softball Recap: Olympia Takes a Loss

Olympia dropped their record down to 10-8 on Friday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the Graham-Kapowsin Eagles by a score of 3-2. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Eagles this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 6-0 back in March.

Ava Bautista put in work while hitting and pitching. She struck out eight batters over 6.1 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.

Bautista wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Georgia Maurer, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

As for Graham-Kapowsin, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-4 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games.

On Graham-Kapowsin's side, Brooklyn Pettit spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on eight hits and racked up 12 Ks.

On the hitting side, MaKena Rodgers was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run.

Looking ahead, Olympia will host Bonney Lake at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Graham-Kapowsin, they will head out on the road to face off against Spanaway Lake at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Eagles are facing the Sentinels at the right time seeing as the Sentinels are stuck on a 13-game losing streak.
