Baseball Recap: Poca Dots vs. South Charleston Black Eagles
Poca had lost eight straight on the road, but on Saturday they dropped their record down to 2-13 to make it nine. They lost 10-0 to the South Charleston Black Eagles. The Dots were not able to make up for their loss to the Black Eagles from their previous meeting back in April of 2024.
As for South Charleston, their victory ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 8-9. The high-scoring effort was just what they needed considering they were shut out in their previous matchup.
For South Charleston's part, Tanner Adkins made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. Adkins has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two runs and two RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted over his last 11 contests.
In other batting news, Jackson Akers was incredible, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Jackson Webb also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Poca will welcome Hannan at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. As for South Charleston, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Riverside at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. The Black Eagles are facing the Warriors at the right time seeing as the Warriors are stuck on a five-game losing streak.
