Basketball Recap: Thursday's Loss Ends Statesville Christian's Winning Streak

It was a good run, but Statesville Christian unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Thursday. They took a 45-32 hit to the loss column at the hands of the North Hills Christian Eagles. If the Lions were looking for revenge after losing 30-27 to them when the teams met, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Addison Layne and Ava Hughes certainly did their best on Thursday to avoid the loss. Layne dropped a double-double on ten points and 11 boards, while Hughes posted 11 points and five rebounds.

Reese Merrell continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for North Hills Christian, going 7 for 15 on her way to 18 points along with eight rebounds and seven assists. That makes it three consecutive games in which Merrell has scored at least a third of North Hills Christian's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ava Kibler, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 13 boards.

Statesville Christian's defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 6-3. As for North Hills Christian, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 8-3.

Statesville Christian has already played their next game, a 41-17 win against Hickory Christian Academy on the 13th. As for North Hills Christian, they are taking a road trip to face off against Statesville Christian at 5:30 p.m. on January 16th.
