Baseball Game Preview: Lanier Voks vs. Edison Golden Bears

Lanier hasn't had much luck against Edison recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Voks will take on the Golden Bears at 6:00 p.m. Lanier has given up an average of 13.3 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Lanier is headed into Wednesday's game looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their ninth straight game on Tuesday. They came up short against Jefferson, falling 17-0.

Meanwhile, Edison waltzed into their matchup on Friday with seven straight wins... but they left with eight. They never let the Hurricanes get on the board and left with a 15-0 victory. Considering the Golden Bears have won six contests by more than seven runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Xavier Martinez was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 15 over five innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.

In other batting news, Noah Soto and Tristen Henderson did most of the damage at the plate: Soto scored two runs while going 3-for-4, while Henderson scored three runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Those two runs gave Soto a new career-high. Ezrah Acosta-Torres also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

Edison pushed their record up to 14-4 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.5 runs on average over those games. As for Lanier, their loss dropped their record down to 1-11-1.

Lanier might still be hurting after the 21-0 defeat they got from Edison in their previous matchup back in March. Can the Voks avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
