The University City Centurions will challenge the Olympian Eagles at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. University City hasn't scored more than a single run for four games straight, a trend the team is eager to reverse.
University City's last matchup with Clairemont could've gone either way, but unfortunately the same can't be said for the pair's contest on Thursday. The Centurions came up short against the Chieftains, falling 15-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Centurions have suffered against the Chieftains since April 29, 2016.
University City saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Alyssa Castillo, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one RBI.
Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Olympian ultimately got the result they hoped for on Saturday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Granite Hills, sneaking past 6-4. Six seems to be a good number for Olympian as the squad scooped up a victory with the same number of runs in their previous game.
Alexandra Perez spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned runs on nine hits.
On the hitting side, Olympian let Samantha Becerra and Jaiden Liera run wild. Becerra went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double, while Liera went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one double. Those two runs gave Becerra a new career-high. Kailynn Robeson was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs.
Olympian pushed their record up to 6-11-1 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for University City, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-13-1.
University City suffered a grim 11-1 defeat to Olympian in their previous meeting back in March. Will the Centurions have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more softball content.
