Football Game Preview: Sulphur Golden Tors vs. Southside Sharks

Sulphur is 0-6 against Southside since October of 2019 but things could change on Friday. The Golden Tors will face off against the Sharks at 7:00 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Sulphur was handed a 63-point defeat in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Friday. They had just enough and edged out New Iberia 44-41. The win continues a trend for the Golden Tors in their matchups with the Yellowjackets: they've now won five in a row.

Dalton Shirley went supernova, rushing for 56 yards and two TDs, while also throwing for 155 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Tyler Joubert was another key player, rushing for 88 yards and a pair of scores.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Southside). They put the hurt on Sam Houston with a sharp 52-28 victory on Thursday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest win of the season.

Southside's victory bumped their record up to 5-1. As for Sulphur, their win was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 2-4.

Sulphur was taken down by Southside 41-0 in their previous matchup back in October of 2024. Can the Golden Tors avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
