Baseball Game Preview: Nodaway Valley Wolverines vs. Martensdale-St. Mary's Blue Devils

Nodaway Valley is 2-7 against Martensdale-St. Mary since June of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Wolverines will head out to square off against the Blue Devils at 7:30 p.m. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Nodaway Valley took a ten-run defeat the last time they faced off against Wayne, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Wolverines came out on top in a nail-biter against the Falcons on Friday, sneaking past 8-7. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Wolverines as it put an end to their seven-game losing streak.

Meanwhile, after only one run in their last game, Martensdale-St. Mary's made sure to put some runs up on the board against Woodbury Central on Saturday. The Blue Devils put the hurt on the Wildcats with a sharp 14-2 victory. The Blue Devils might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 15 contests by six runs or more this season.

Martensdale-St. Mary's has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 11 of their last 12 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 21-4 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Nodaway Valley, their victory bumped their record up to 4-12.

Nodaway Valley suffered a grim 10-1 defeat to Martensdale-St. Mary's when the teams last played on June 12th. Can the Wolverines avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
