Softball Game Preview: Washington Panthers vs. Normal Community Ironmen

The Washington Panthers will take on the Normal Community Ironmen at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Neither of those teams managed to put together many runs in their previous contests, so the offenses might be a little more motivated than usual.

Washington is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Illinois' top teams: Dunlap, who was ranked 17th at the time (Washington was ranked 19th). The Panthers fell 5-1 to the Eagles on Thursday.

For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Normal Community and Olympia meet (four straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Wednesday. The Ironmen took a 7-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Spartans.

Anna Grotbo was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.

Normal Community's defeat dropped their record down to 18-15. As for Washington, their loss dropped their record down to 21-8.

Washington got the 'W' in their previous meeting back in May of 2025 against Normal Community by a conclusive 8-2 score. Do the Panthers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Ironmen turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
