Football Recap: Williston Red Devils vs. Chiefland Indians

Williston unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They were just a hair shy of victory on Friday and fell 36-35 to the Chiefland Indians. The Red Devils were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Indians apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in November of 2024.

Williston's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Terrence Marshall, who rushed for 75 yards and one score. The Red Devils also got help from Sean Bollwage, who showed off his sure hands for 88 receiving yards.

Chiefland was led to victory by Demorri Sweet and Matt Goodale. Sweet rushed for 113 yards and one touchdown on only 13 carries, while Goodale rushed for 81 yards and one TD. Sweet also deserves a shoutout for his performance on D, forcing one fumble and making nine total tackles.

Williston will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Paxon School For Advanced Studies at 6:30 p.m. on the 5th. As for Chiefland, they have already played their next matchup, a 14-0 defeat against Baker County on the 29th.
