Baseball Recap: Mcgavock's Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

McGavock had to endure a four-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They came out on top against the Martin Luther King Jr. Magnet Royals by a score of 8-5 on Friday.

Paul Benz was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed seven innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (three). He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.

In other batting news, Montay Keel was excellent, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. He is becoming a predictor of McGavock's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 2-1 (and 2-8 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Cody Calvin, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-3.

McGavock's victory bumped their record up to 4-9. As for Martin Luther King Jr. Magnet, their loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 9-8.

Coming up, McGavock will venture away from home to face off against Cane Ridge at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Martin Luther King Jr. Magnet, they will welcome Glencliff at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Royals are facing the Colts at the right time seeing as the Colts are stuck on an eight-game losing streak.
