Softball Game Preview: Mercer Island Islanders vs. Interlake Saints

The Mercer Island Islanders will square off against the Interlake Saints at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Mercer Island hasn't scored more than two runs for three games straight, a trend the team is eager to reverse.

Mercer Island lost 23-1 to Garfield on Monday.

Meanwhile, Interlake got the win against Tyee on Monday by a conclusive 11-3. The result was nothing new for the Saints, who have now won six contests by eight runs or more so far this season.

Lizzy Thompsen made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. Thompsen was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.

In other batting news, Tali Estolano was a standout: she scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Dorah Wang, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.

Interlake pushed their record up to 8-5 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.0 runs over those games. As for Mercer Island, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-10.
