Football Recap: River Valley Piles Up the Points Against Purchase Line

River Valley had to skate by with only a three-point margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 35-point drubbing they dealt Purchase Line on Friday. The Panthers breezed past the Red Dragons to the tune of 35-0. Considering the Panthers have won four matchups by more than 27 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

River Valley's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jake Woodring, who rushed for 115 yards on only 11 carries, and also caught one touchdown. Hunter Adair also helped with two TDs in total.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: River Valley was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 245 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 157 rushing yards in five consecutive games.

River Valley's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-1. The road wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 11.0 points on average over those games. As for Purchase Line, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-5.

Coming up, River Valley will face off against Conemaugh Valley at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Panthers will be up against the Blue Jays' rather soft defense (which has allowed 46.14 points per contest), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Purchase Line, they will challenge Marion Center at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Red Dragons' defense better be ready for this one: the Stingers have averaged an impressive 32.3 points per game this season.
