Football Game Preview: Holliday Eagles vs. Jacksboro Tigers

The Holliday Eagles will take on the Jacksboro Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Holliday is headed into Friday's matchup hungry for a win as their strong season has now been derailed by two straight defeats. They lost 55-34 to Henrietta on Friday. The Eagles were down 48-26 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.

Caleb McClane put forth a good effort for the losing side as he threw for 230 yards and three touchdowns.

Meanwhile, Jacksboro had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 33.3 points) and they went ahead and made it five on Friday. They took their contest with ease, bagging a 61-0 win over the Eagles. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Tigers' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 397th, while the Eagles are ranked 1149th).

Holliday better keep an eye on Wyatt Gavit. He was instrumental in Jacksboro's win, throwing for 293 yards and six TDs on only 11 passes. Thanks to that big game, Gavit is now up to 25 passing touchdowns on the season. Ryder Davis helped Gavit out on the ground, rushing for 105 yards and one score on only six carries.

Special teams was a major factor in the game for Jacksboro, racking up 13 points in total. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Kris Wicks, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.

Jacksboro now has a winning record of 5-4. As for Holliday, their loss dropped their record down to 6-3.

Everything went Holliday's way against Jacksboro when the teams last played back in November of 2024, as Holliday made off with a 36-14 victory. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Gavit, who rushed for 94 yards and one touchdown, and also threw for 180 yards and one TD.
