Basketball Game Preview: Dawson Dragons vs. Loop Longhorns

The Dawson Dragons will square off against the Loop Longhorns at 7:45 p.m. on Friday. Dawson has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the game with 21 straight losses, while Loop will come in with 19 straight victories.

Dawson is headed into the matchup out to prove that what happened against O'Donnell back in December of 2024 (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Dawson took a blow against O'Donnell, falling 63-28. The Dragons were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 38-4.

Meanwhile, Loop didn't have too much trouble with Meadow on Tuesday as they won 59-40. Given the Longhorns' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 689th, while the Broncos are ranked 1521st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Loop's win was their ninth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 19-1. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 31.1 points. As for Dawson, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-6.

Dawson and Loop were neck-and-neck in their previous meeting back in January of 2023, but Dawson came up empty-handed after a 1-0 loss. Can Dawson avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
